Bagi peneliti, publikasi karya ilmiah hanyalah satu dari banyak tahapan dalam kegiatan penelitian. Sebuah karya ilmiah bisa jadi dihasilkan dari berbulan-bulan atau bahkan bertahun-tahun kegiatan penelitian. Publikasi karya ilmiah merupakan upaya peneliti untuk menyuarakan pengetahuannya agar bisa dinikamti orang lain dan menambah khazanah pengetahuan dunia. Publikasi bukanlah akhir dari serangkaian kegiatan penelitian, tidak jarang seorang peneliti dituntut mampu mempertahankan apa yang ditulisnya dalam suatu karya ilmiah.
